Plant native trees and remove pest plants
The Whau River Catchment Trust is a non-profit environmental group, delivering ecological restoration projects all across the catchment with the support of our amazing west Auckland community.
We are holding a weeding and planting bee to care for one of our local streams at Tiakina/Sister Rene Shadbolt Park in New Lynn. Come along and help pull out invasive weeds to make space for our native trees. These trees will help to stabilise the bank and improve the water quality of the Waitahurangi.
No experience or plant knowledge required. This is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty, learn about Auckland's beautiful natural ecosystems, and meet like-minded people passionate for preserving the natural environment.
You will need to bring sturdy closed-in shoes (eg gumboots, tramping shoes or old sneakers), long sleeves and trousers (some of the weeds are prickly!) and a drink bottle.
Gloves and tools provided, as well as juice and biscuits for morning tea.
