Family-Friendly Planting & Wellness Days (22nd & 29th August)
Join us for a fun, family-friendly day restoring the Papakura Stream - one of Auckland’s most impacted freshwater systems. These special community planting events are part of the Auckland Junior Landcare Trust Legacy Project, a collaboration between CVNZ, New Zealand Landcare Trust and Bupa, bringing together community members, rangatahi, Bupa residents and volunteers from across Tāmaki Makaurau. You will be supporting our work on the Papakura Stream Restoration Project, where we have planted more than 168,000 native plants over the past five years. These trees are helping to restore native forest cover, improve stream health and create habitat for local wildlife. These action-packed days will kick off with a 20-minute wellness and yoga session before we get stuck into planting native trees and plants along the stream. Expect fresh air, muddy boots, great company and hands-on action for all ages. Bring your whānau, friends and community spirit - everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a first-time volunteer or a seasoned planter, there’s a role for everyone. CVNZ will provide all the tools and equipment for the day. Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear, bring a water bottle and snacks. The day will finish with a celebratory BBQ to thank volunteers for their hard work. For this volunteer day you are welcome to meet us on site, or at our office in Mount Eden to get a ride in our van (by prior arrangement). Come along, connect with nature and help make a lasting difference for the Papakura Stream.
Please register for this event by going to our booking portal. What to wear: Appropriate outdoor clothing (lightweight long-sleeved clothing and tough trousers are needed to protect yourself from cuts and scratches and insect bites/stings). Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and something you don't mind getting muddy (gumboots, hiking shoes, work boots, trainers). CVNZ will supply all of the tools and equipment required for the day. Please bring with you a hat, raincoat/waterproof jacket, sunblock, a snack, full water bottle and any medication you may need (hayfever medication, inhalers etc). We will have extra water to refill bottles, sunblock, snacks and insect repellent with us on the day.
Both days go from 9:30am to 1:30pm
Saturdays 22nd and 29th August.
