Community Tree Planting at Frangipani Avenue Reserve
CVNZ welcomes you to a fun day out on the Papakura Stream Restoration Project. This is a catchment-wide programme, aimed at bringing life back to the Papakura Stream - one of Auckland's most impacted freshwater systems. Since 2021, CVNZ has been working alongside local boards, Auckland Council, partners and landowners to restore the health of the stream. To date, we have planted over 168,000 native plants and trees, with another 30,000+ planned for this winter. We need your help! Come along to this community planting day and get ready to dig deep. This year, we are planting approximately 5,000 plants at Frangipani Avenue Reserve, located at the mouth of the Manukau Harbour. These native plants will help to improve water quality entering our moana, reduce stream bank erosion and sediment runoff, increase native habitat for birds, fish and other wildlife and enhance green spaces and opportunities for community involvement. All tools and equipment will be provided. Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear, bring a water bottle and snacks! We will finish our planting at 12:30pm and end with some celebratory snacks for all our volunteers. For this volunteer day you are welcome to meet us on site, or at our office in Mount Eden to get a ride in our van (by prior arrangement). This event is made possible through generous funding from the Papakura, Franklin and Manurewa Local Boards.
Please register for this event by going to our booking portal.
What to wear: Appropriate outdoor clothing (lightweight long-sleeved clothing and tough trousers are needed to protect yourself from cuts and scratches and insect bites/stings). Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and something you don't mind getting muddy (gumboots, hiking shoes, work boots, trainers). CVNZ will supply all of the tools and equipment required for the day. Please bring with you a hat, raincoat/waterproof jacket, sunblock, a snack, full water bottle and any medication you may need (hayfever medication, inhalers etc). We will have extra water to refill bottles, sunblock, snacks and insect repellent with us on the day.
All events run from 9:30am to 1:30pm.
We have 3 days available. You can register for 1 or all 3!
