Copsey Reserve weeding bee

After all the warm wet weather we've been having this summer, the weeds at Copsey Reserve are flourishing, completely shading out last year's native plantings. We are looking for some keen volunteers to help tackle the weeds, which will involve hand weeding around the native plants. The terrain can be a little challenging, especially when the ground is muddy from rain, so make sure you're confident on your feet. It's a lovely spot, off the beaten track, with stunning views across the Mōtū Manawa-Pollen Island Marine Reserve. This work will help to restore the native coastal forest, providing a crucial buffer zone to protect the reserve. We will provide all volunteers with hand tools and gloves, plus juice and biscuits for morning tea. Meeting at the accessway to the reserve, between 26 and 32 Jomac Place, Avondale.

Requirements:

Please bring sturdy, closed-in shoes (old sneakers, tramping shoes or gumboots are best - no sandals or jandals); clothing suitable for working outdoors; sunblock and a sunhat; and plenty of drinking water. If it's raining the event may still go ahead, so bring a raincoat if it looks like it might be wet. No experience required. Volunteers under 12yo must have adult supervision.

Time commitment:

9:30am - 12:00 (2.5hrs) in Sunday 22 February.
