WORKING BEE | A shared, hands-on kaupapa grounded in tikanga and care.

Join Charmaine Bailie and the team for a four-session series focused on caring for pā harakeke.

These sessions are about spending time with harakeke, learning its rhythms, understanding its role as taonga and caring for it in ways that align with tikanga Māori and the needs of the whenua.

Learn about harakeke and its connection to people, place and ecosystems.
Follow tikanga for caring for and harvesting harakeke.
Carry out practical mahi to support the health of the pā.
Transplant harakeke in the final two sessions to strengthen and extend the pā.
Please note: These are not weaving workshops. We are focusing on the tikanga around care first. As part of the process, you are welcome to take rau to weave.

These sessions are open to anyone who wants to learn through doing, whether you are new to harakeke, involved in raranga or wanting to contribute to caring for te taiao. No prior experience is needed.

Thanks to Kaipātiki Local Board for supporting this initiative.
