Wetland restoration planting - Craigavon Park

The Whau River Catchment Trust
Conservation | Evenings/Weekends | Blockhouse Bay
30 November 2025

The Whau River Catchment Trust is a non-profit environmental group, delivering ecological restoration projects all across the catchment with the support of our amazing west Auckland community. One of the areas we are looking after is a small patch of wetland, right at the top of the catchment in Craigavon Park. On Sunday 30th November, we are holding a community event to replant this area with native plants (and pull out any weeds if we get all the plants in early). This planting will help to filter out pollutants, keeping the water that enters the Whau clean and healthy, as well as provide habitats for native birds and other critters. We'll be meeting at 9am next to the carpark at the Connaught Street entrance to the park. The work should take no more than a couple of hours, so we expect to wrap up by 11am. The planting site is relatively flat, and is suitable for children. Note that it is an off-leash dog park.

Requirements:

No planting experience required. You will need to bring sturdy, closed-in footwear (no sandals or jandals); clothing suitable for working outdoors; sunscreen and a sun hat; and a drink bottle. There won't be any cover, so don't forget a raincoat if it's a wet day. We'll provide gloves and tools, and juice and biscuits for morning tea. Children under the age of 12 will need adult supervision.

Time commitment:

Up to 2 hours, from 9am to 11am on Sunday 30 November.
