Advocate – Support and Rights Ally
Citizen Advocacy Auckland is looking for a mature, responsible woman to become a citizen advocate for a woman living in Ōtāhuhu who would benefit from a steady, rights-focused companion in her corner.
She navigating challenges in life and needs someone who brings patience, compassion, and a clear voice when things feel overwhelming. This is not a caregiving role, it’s about standing beside her, building a trusted relationship, and walking with her through life’s systems and hurdles.
You’ll also be supporting her to reconnect with the community, try new experiences, and explore her creative spark from Zumba classes to art workshops and scenic walks.
We’re looking for someone who:
Is mature, grounded, and responsible
Has an understanding of disability, mental health, trauma, and the importance of dignity and agency
Is confident navigating systems like WINZ, housing, or health services
Can support her to advocate for herself and ensure her rights are upheld
Is patient, calm, and values long-term, respectful relationships
Ideally has experience in health, social work, psychology, or community services (not required but helpful)

Requirements:
Commitment to a long-term, one-to-one advocacy relationship
Availability of approx. 1–2 hours per week (flexible)
Willingness to meet in person regularly and build a strong connection over time
Police vetting (required)
Two referees (required)
Attendance at initial training and ongoing support sessions
Time Commitment:
Approx. 1–2 hours per week, flexible. A consistent connection is important for building trust. Occasional short-notice support (e.g. attending a GP appointment) may be required.
