Advocate - One-to-One Friendship
Citizen Advocacy Auckland is seeking a mature woman with either lived experience or strong knowledge of autism to build a trusting, long-term connection with a young autistic woman living in West Auckland.
She is thoughtful, sensitive, and quietly creative. She enjoys music, baking, and arts and crafts, and feels most at ease with people who are calm, consistent, and kind. Her world is currently quite small and what she needs most is someone to help her feel safe, seen, and socially connected again.
We are looking for someone who is:
Mature (ideally 40s+), calm, and emotionally steady
Warm, patient, and a clear communicator
Experienced in or understanding of autism (personally or professionally)
Comfortable and respectful of Christian values
While no qualifications are necessary, a background in health, psychology, education, social work, or counselling would be highly valued
A full driver’s licence and access to a car is preferable
She lives in West Auckland with her mother and has reliable transport, along with weekday support from a trusted support worker. Her needs are not clinical — they’re human. She would love a steady companion to reduce social isolation, gently rebuild friendships, and encourage new interests like dancing.
This relationship will begin with regular home visits and build gradually over time. She thrives with people who honour her pace, respect her communication style, and take the time to get to know her.
Could this be you?
Do you have a calm, steady presence and a genuine desire to make a difference in someone’s life?
Are you able to commit to a long-term, one-to-one relationship based on trust, respect, and consistency?
Do you enjoy creative activities like baking, music, or crafts or simply spending time in quiet companionship?
If so, we’d love to hear from you.
Please email coordinator@caauckland.org.nz with a short note about yourself and a copy of your CV.
A police vet and two referees are required for all volunteer roles.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
One person. One relationship. One life changed quietly, meaningfully, for the better.
