Atiu Plant Nursery & Planting
Ātiu Creek Regional Park lies on the eastern edge of the Kaipara Harbour, New Zealand’s largest estuary and the second largest harbour in the world. The harbour contains ecologically significant sand dune, sea grass, freshwater and estuarine ecosystems and the surrounding catchment area covers 640,000 hectares across the Auckland and Northland regions.
The park itself is an 843 hectare patchwork of rolling pastures, exotic tree plantations, and majestic stands of rare and ancient native forest, wetlands and estuarine mangroves. More than a third of the park is covered by mature and regenerating native forest with large, old kauri, pūriri and pohutukawa found on the ridges and coastal reaches. Parts of the park are also home to the nationally threatened weweia (New Zealand Dabchick) and pāteke (Brown Teal).
This year we are raising over 30,000 native plants to supply restoration plantings within the park. We need your help to pot on our native seedlings into bigger pots so that they can grow big and strong and be ready to plant next winter.
Transport from Mount Eden to Ātiu Creek Regional Park is provided.
This is an overnight event, where you stay at our accommodation at Ātiu Regional Park - this is dorm style accommodation. Showers and laundry facilities are available. BYO lunch on the first day but all other food is provided
