Waitoki Community Weeding Bee
Join us for the weeding along the creek at Waitoki.
As part of the restoration work by the local community to transform the 'Forestry Road' Reserve environment into a native forest. The restoration planting along riparian margins and surrounding areas helps to stabilise the creek bank. Caring for our waterways also enhances the flood resilience and biodiversity in the Reserve. This is supported by Wai Care Programme from Auckland Council's Healthy Waters department.
However, things won't stop from here after planting; we'll need your help to release the tree from the weeds. Weeding is equally important as planting in a way to enhance the survival of young trees. Grasses and vines will overshadow and smother the small trees that eventually killing them. That's why your care matters in saving the native trees, before they grow tall enough to establish into a forest.
