💧Wai Care, Water monitoring in Te Auaunga - Multilingual
Wai Care, Water monitoring in Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek (Multilingual Session)
Conservation Volunteers New Zealand is collaborating with Friends of Oakley Creek and Wai Care Programme to demonstrate how we study the health of waterways.
Wai Care is a citizen science program that helps communities connect with local waterways through learning, monitoring, and action. We aim to understand and improve stream health by raising awareness of its connection to daily activities and fostering collective responsibility.
We will demonstrate how to monitor the health of the waterways, conduct on-site water quality testing, identify fish and macroinvertebrates, and share some interesting facts about our awa (stream).
This multilingual workshop is delivered in English, Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin. You and your family and friends are warmly welcome to join us. Let's show our love to the awa. Hats, long sleeves/trousers, and sturdy footwear are a must. Please bring your water bottle.
Direction: For this volunteer day, you are welcome to meet us at the entrance of Harbutt Reserve, towards the end of Harbutt Avenue at 10am.
What to wear: Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and something you don’t mind getting muddy (gumboots, hiking shoes, work boots, trainers) and appropriate outdoor clothing (lightweight long sleeved clothing and trousers are needed to protect yourself from cuts and scratches and insect bites/stings).
What to bring: CVNZ will supply all of the tools and equipment required for the day. Please bring with you a hat, raincoat/waterproof jacket, sunblock, a snack, full water bottle and any medication you may need (hayfever medication, inhalers etc). We will have extra water to refill bottles, sunblock, snacks and insect repellent with us on the day.
We look forward to seeing you there!
