Pest line trappers
Our goal is to achieve 'Pest-free Whau' by 2050. To help us reach this target, we need volunteers to check and reset traps with new bait at least monthly. We do not use any poisons. Each volunteer will be fully trained on how to check and reset the traps safely.
The hours will depend entirely on what you are able to commit to. Location is on the Rosebank Peninsula, alongside the Rosebank Industrial area. Normally, we can only monitor during business working hours, however, some sections are accessible on the weekend. We also have trapping projects at Tony Segedin Reserve which can be checked on weekdays and weekends.
A full driver’s licence is recommended, as most of our traps are around the Rosebank Peninsula. However, it is not required, and there are still plenty of trapping-related tasks you can help with at the WRCT office if you don’t drive.
Our pest trapping sessions take place every Thursday between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Volunteers are welcome to come along on the day, but please arrive in the morning, as we may be out at trapping sites during the afternoon and the office may not be staffed. We meet at the WRCT office at Blockhouse Bay Recreation Reserve before heading out to the trapping sites.
