Weed Busting at Gittos Domain
We look forward to hosting you for a Weed-Busting day at Gittos Domain, the native coastal forest at Blockhouse Bay.
Auckland's warm climate favours the proliferation of weeds. Friends and Kaitiaki of Blockhouse Bay Beach have spotted some bush areas infested with nasty weeds. If left unattended and spread, these will pose negative challenges to the health of the native forest - taking up spaces and sunlight and preventing the natural regeneration of native trees.
With your effort to free up the living space and sunshine for the trees, the vegetation will soon provide shelter and protection along the coast and walkway, making the place more pleasant for recreation and conservation.
Note that some areas require physical fitness, e.g., weeding on slopes.

For this volunteer day, you are welcome to meet us onsite or meet at our office at 8.45am at 10 New North Rd Eden Terrace to get a ride in our van. Seats are limited in our vans, so you MUST email Teresa at tma@cvnz.org.nz or text 021 496 890 to reserve a seat. For those meeting onsite, please meet our team at 9.30am near the end of Lewis Street.
What to wear: Please wear sturdy, comfortable footwear and something you don’t mind getting muddy (gumboots, hiking shoes, work boots, trainers) and appropriate outdoor clothing (lightweight long sleeved clothing and trousers are needed to protect yourself from cuts and scratches and insect bites/stings).
What to bring: CVNZ will supply all of the tools and equipment required for the day. Please bring with you a hat, raincoat/waterproof jacket, sunblock, a snack, full water bottle and any medication you may need (hayfever medication, inhalers etc). We will have extra water to refill bottles, sunblock, snacks and insect repellent with us on the day.
