Head, Heart & Hands Projects

Head, Heart & Hands Projects

'Head' Projects

These projects will generally be using specific skills or experience in a certain field to add value to community organisations. Some additional time is usually required in advance to plan the day to maximise the benefit for the organisation. These include:

  • Developing and presenting a workshop in an area of expertise, such as strategic & business planning, people management, marketing & communication, and social media.
  • Capacity-building projects within a community organisation, such as reviewing financial, IT or administrative systems.
  • Project management skill development.
  • Health & safety and risk assessment planning.
  • Development of policies, such as financial, health & safety.
  • Mentoring and leadership training for Managers.
  • Utilising any life-skill, such as gardening, sports coaching, using technology.

'Heart' Projects

These projects generally involve work which will tug at the heart strings, for causes which support the young, elderly, those with disabilities or facing terminal illness. They may still involve some hands-on work but are usually more sedentary and may involve social interaction with members of the community. These include:

  • Working alongside those with disabilities.
  • Assisting young people with disabilities on sports days.
  • Sorting household goods & furniture for sale in an Opp shop.
  • Working to support a Hospice.
  • Cooking meals for those in need.
  • Social activities with the elderly.
  • Fundraising on appeal days and awareness weeks.

'Hands' Projects

These projects generally involve hands-on tasks for those who are keen to get involved in more physical work. This is usually outdoors, getting your hands dirty and working hard. These include:

  • Outdoors conservation work, such as weeding, planting and mulching in the native bush, Hauraki Gulf islands or regional parks.
  • Walking track or fence maintenance in regional parks.
  • Beach and park clean ups.
  • Gardening working bees.
  • Animal care.
  • Painting or DIY indoors or outdoors.
  • House-building projects.

The people are all sweet

When I first came to New Zealand I received a lot help from others and for the first time I got a feeling of being encouraged and blessed.
