Face-to-Face Literacy Coach - West Auckland
The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust is looking for a caring and reliable volunteer to support an older woman in West Auckland with her reading and writing. This is a one-on-one, face-to-face role, meeting regularly in a safe public space like the local library. You’ll work alongside her at her own pace, helping build confidence and practical literacy skills in a relaxed, supportive way. What you’ll do: - Provide one-on-one literacy support - Meet regularly at a mutually agreed time (e.g. local library) - Take a learner-led, supportive approach - Encourage confidence and independence What we offer: - Full training and resources - Ongoing support from our team - A rewarding volunteer opportunity - Connection to a wider network of volunteers
- Patient, kind, and encouraging
- Reliable and able to commit to regular sessions
- Good communication skills
- No teaching experience needed — training and support are provided
- 2–3 hours per week
- Includes 1–2 face-to-face sessions
- Includes 1 catch-up phone call with the learner
- Some lesson preparation required
