Flood resilience community support
The Whau River Catchment is a non-profit community organisation. One of our projects in 2025 is to support local Whau communities who are affected by flooding, as part of Auckland Council's Community Flood Resilience initiative. Part of this involves engaging with households in flood prone areas to improve awareness and understanding of flooding, and to offer ongoing support where it is needed. To do this, we will be knocking on people's doors and having conversations with residents.
By volunteering on this project, you will be working alongside our coordinator to go door-to-door, having face-to-face interactions with the community. You don't have to know anything about flooding - our coordinator will handle all the flood-related messaging. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly and outgoing, who have excellent communication and listening skills, and a real interest in helping people. If this sounds like you, please get in touch!
- Excellent verbal communication skills
 - Being able to speak multiple languages would be awesome, but it's not essential.

To start with, we will be looking at door-knocking one day per week, for about 3-5hrs each day. The best days are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but we can be flexible. Let us know what times and days work for you.
We hope to start this project in late November.
