Academic Community Tutor

The Academic Community Tutor programme at DreamCatchers WorldWide offers free access to high-quality, personalizes tutoring in core subjects—English, Maths, and Science—to help learners improve their skills and achieve their educational goals. Our dedicated tutors and volunteers work closely with students to provide 1-2-1 support, group sessions, and tailored learning plans designed to enhance comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Through interactive lessons, mentorship, and community-driven support, we aim to bridge learning gaps and inspire academic excellence. Whether students need help with homework, exam preparation, or foundational skills, our tutors are committed to making education engaging and impactful.

This program aligns with DCW’s mission to empower communities through education and skill development, ensuring that everyone has access to quality learning opportunities, regardless of background or ability.

Requirements:

Tutors in the Academic Community Tutor programme must have experience with the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) standards. Familiarity with subject-specific achievement objectives, assessment criteria, and exam preparation is essential to effectively support students at various NCEA levels. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of English, Mathematics, and Science within the NZ education system, ensuring that tutoring aligns with national learning expectations and helps students achieve academic success.

  1. Educational Background & Experience

    • Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) standards.
    • Experience teaching or tutoring English, Mathematics, or Science
    • Relevant teaching qualifications, tutoring experience, or subject-matter expertise.
  2. Teaching & Communication Skills

    • Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
    • Experience providing 1-2-1 support and group tutoring.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and motivate students.
  3. Student Support & Adaptability

    • Experience working with diverse learners, including students who need additional academic support.
    • Ability to assess student progress and tailor learning strategies accordingly.
    • Patience, empathy, and a passion for education.
  4. Technical & Organisational Skills

    • Proficiency in using online learning platforms, educational tools, and resources.
    • Strong organisational skills to plan lessons and track student progress.
    • Ability to provide feedback and reports on student performance when required.
  5. Additional Considerations

    • A valid teaching certification (preferred but not essential).
    • Prior experience in community education or working with underserved groups is a plus.

A Police background check is required for this role.
