Coastal Clean Up site leader

Following the success of the event in March this year, we are excited to be planning our next event on the 15th March 2025. We are aiming to deliver a harbour wide clean up event across a number of sites on the same day and time. Last year we had over 170 people removing rubbish from 5 sites - we want to increase the number of people and the number of sites if we can this year so we can make even more impact.

We are looking for one or two site leaders for each of a number of sites around the Upper Harbour area - The Landing in Albany, Schnapper Rock, Hobsonville, Riverhead and anywhere else you might like to take part that meets our criteria (Upper Waitemata Harbour area, coastal edge or walkway). You (and a friend possibly) would be responsible for one site but working as part of a team in the build up to the event.

There are a core team of site leaders meeting online monthly (will increase frequency as we get closer) and all general health and safety, promotion and communications will be produced centrally. Your local knowledge of the site and what the specific issues there are will be invaluable. The organising team will give you all the support you need to make your event a success You need to be available on the day and champion the event to local residents through social media, posters and word of mouth.

What a great example of project / event management / conservation work for your CV!

Requirements:

You will need to be physically on site on the 15th March from about 11am to 5pm, have a sensible approach and be able to use common sense to manage any unforeseen circumstances on the day! A willingness to approach local businesses for sponsorship of a sausage sizzle would be great. A passion for environmental causes will mean that you will probably connect better with the event and those attending.

This is a role that can most definitely be shared so if there are 2 or more of you interested in taking on the role in one location that will help share the load.

Time commitment:

You'll need to dedicate 10 or so hours through January and February for meetings and planning work. March will be busier with probably weekly or fortnightly meetings and the actual event on the 15th. Plus we'll have a debrief meeting afterwards - so around 20 - 25 hours but all wrapped up by the end of March.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
