Social Media and Marketing

Overview:
We are looking for a volunteer with an interest in social media and marketing to help grow our online presence. This role focuses on promoting our events, sharing our work, and helping us reach a wider audience to strengthen community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
Create and schedule engaging social media content across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
Promote community events, volunteer opportunities, workshops, and environmental initiatives.
Capture and share photos, videos, stories, and highlights from events and projects.
Help develop content that showcases the organisation's impact, achievements, and community involvement.
Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner.
Assist with growing online audiences and increasing community awareness of the Trust's activities.
Support the development of marketing materials, including newsletters, flyers, and promotional content when required.
Maintain a consistent brand voice and ensure content aligns with the Trust's values and objectives.
Collaborate with staff and volunteers to identify and share compelling stories from within the community.
Track basic social media performance metrics and provide suggestions for improving reach and engagement.

Desired Skills and Experience:
Interest in social media, digital marketing, communications, or community engagement.
Good written communication skills and attention to detail.
Creativity and an ability to develop engaging content.
Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools.
Photography, videography, or graphic design skills are advantageous but not essential.
Passion for environmental restoration, conservation, or community development is highly desirable
Assist in managing our social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram)
Create and schedule engaging posts to promote events and initiatives
Help develop ideas to grow our audience and increase engagement
Respond to messages and comments where appropriate
Work with the team to highlight projects, events, and success stories
Support basic tracking of engagement (likes, shares, reach)

Purpose of the Role:
The Social Media and Marketing Volunteer plays an important role in increasing awareness of the Whau River Catchment Trust's work, events, and community initiatives. By creating engaging online content and supporting promotional activities, the volunteer will help strengthen community connections, attract volunteers and supporters, and enhance the Trust's visibility across digital platforms. This role contributes to building a stronger, more informed, and actively engaged community that supports the restoration and protection of the Whau River catchment.

A genuine interest in social media, marketing, or communications
Basic familiarity with platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
Good written communication and attention to detail
Ability to commit a few hours per week on a consistent basis
Willingness to learn and take initiative
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Access to a phone or computer for creating and scheduling content, which will be provided in our office
Reliability and good time management skills

Desirable (but not essential):

Experience using tools such as Canva or other design platforms
Basic photography or videography skills
Understanding of social media analytics or content planning

Time commitment:

Ability to commit a few hours per week on a consistent basis. Our working hours between 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Friday.
