Horticulture Leader – Kumeū

We would love the support of a friendly Kumeū local (or someone close by) with a bit of kiwi ingenuity and knowledge of - weed eaters, lawn mowers (push and ride-on), Hansa chipper, pruning shears/secateurs, trailer. Ideally, you’d be someone who is open to committing to Wednesdays on a regular basis, helping us to develop our orchard into a thriving and productive space!

The usual tasks undertaken by our youth and support staff are:
• Weed Eating/mowing
• Mulching garden waste
• Serious weeding around trees
• Layering mulch around trees
• Digging out old lemon trees that have sadly passed away
• Planting new trees
• Conversing, guiding, learning from and potentially competing in an orchard dance-off

Our young people are great company, always up for a chat and very welcoming. In return for your time, we can provide you with great on the job banter and the rewarding feeling that you have supported some amazing young people to learn valuable work skills and become more confident and independent adults.
A little more about us-

These include new and challenging experiences, personal and skill development, leadership and mentoring; all resulting in building the quality of life, competency and resilience of our young people. We believe employment plays as a tangible role in the representation of independence, financial autonomy, wellbeing, and social inclusion, which is where our work experience programmes, (and potentially YOU!), come in.
