Repair Cafe Volunteers
Doughnut Economics Advocates New Zealand (DEANZ) is an advocacy group for people who are concerned about the threat to the ecological balance presented by climate change and environmental degradation, and the threat to the social balance presented by the relentless pursuit of GDP growth. Our goal is to encourage attitude and behavioural change from a growth-led to a sustainability-led economy through effective communication and education. You will be helping us with our Repair Café initiative. A Repair Café is an event where people bring their loved broken or damaged items to be fixed for free, saving money and reducing the amount of material that ends up in landfill.
At Repair Café we repair items like:
📻 - Small appliances (blenders, heaters, Kettles, fans, tools, electrical toys etc)
🪑 - Smaller furniture pieces that need to be repaired (chairs, wooden toys, antiques)
🚲 - Bikes that need to be serviced
🧸 - Toys
👕 - Clothing that needs fixing and darning and patching, leather works
💻 - Laptops and other electronics
If you can do any of the above repairs or more please contact us.
Why?
• Help us tackle the climate change by diverting material goods out of landfill.
• Help those who financially struggle to replace electrical items when they break down.
• Socialize and connect with your local community.
• Learn new skills through collaboration and participation.
• Advocate and become part of the ‘right to repair’ movement
• Be rewarded with big smiles, endless praise and a free lunch ‘on us’.
Its a family friendly event so bring your kids along and let them learn the importance and Joy of repair and reuse in action.
