Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga, Restoration [Oakley Creek]

Te Auaunga is a beautiful waterway and one of Auckland’s longest urban stream flowing 16km from its headwaters in Hillsborough down to the Waitemata Harbour. There is a popular walkway following most of the awa and a 6m high waterfall in the Waterview area. The lower part of our awa was hit hard by recent weather events (5 bridges lost) and we are working hard to clear the damage of broken branches and debris to prepare for the next planting season. We would love people to join our existing volunteer groups and help get this hidden treasure back in shape. You are welcome to join sessions as a one off, or on an ongoing basis. Our local volunteers are a friendly bunch and love to meet new people and share their knowledge of the creek as they work to restore it. We provide tools, gloves and all equipment required.

Requirements:

Please wear sturdy footwear and clothes that fully cover arms and legs to avoid scratches. Bring a sunhat and/or raincoat depending on the forecast water for personal use.

Time commitment:

Sessions run for 2- 3 hours and you are welcome to join as many as you like.
