Controlling invasive weeds on our predator-free island (Project Manager and team leaders)
Controlling invasive weeds is an ongoing battle, but an important job to stay on top of. We're looking for an overall Project Manager to co-ordinate everyone's weeding activities to ensure we continue to win this battle.
We're also looking for team leaders to manage teams on our volunteer days (both midweek and weekend). Full training and support will be given, it's a fun and rewarding task.
The main weeds we deal with are moth plant, tobacco weed and rhamnus. Many we can pull up by the roots, others are cut at ground level and a paste applied to the stump to kill the roots.
Weeding requires a reasonable level of fitness, as areas can require walking up to 2-4 km before weeding commences. Weeds are often in bush so there is some bending and stretching involved.
But it's a great way to keep fit in a beautiful environment!
Weeding is an all-day activity, we're looking for team leaders to be trained to lead teams of volunteers to carry out weeding work on the island. We have regular trips on weekdays and weekends, visit as often as suits your other commitments.
We're also seeking a Project Manager to co-ordinate weeding activities on the island to ensure we make the most productive use of our volunteer hours. Depending on the person, the position could be shared and would involve more administrative/training activities.
