Conservation volunteers on Motuihe Island

We use The Red Boat ferry. Costs and details are available from info@motuihe.org.nz. After taking the ferry from Westhaven marina you will walk up to the nursery (10 mins) and help with various tasks to restore this Treasure Island. In the winter months you would plant trees. This involves loading the trailer with plants and then walking out to the planting site (15 mins) and help dig holes and plant trees. We also need people in the nursery to grow on the plants for the next year. Track maintenance and weeding are year round jobs. The work usually takes 2 hours. You will then return to the nursery for lunch (bring your own). There is time in the afternoon to explore the island or have a swim.

Requirements:

You do not need any skills. Just be reasonably active and keen to help. We provide all the tools and training required. You will need suitable clothing for outdoors, rain or sun protection depending on the day and your lunch. We provide tea, coffee and milo. The day on the island is free but you will have to pay for the ferry. Details from Fiona on info@motuihe.org.nz.

Time commitment:

This is a full day. The ferry leaves Z pier Westhaven marina at 9 am and Motuihe at 4 pm getting back to Westhaven at 5.30 pm.
