Community Gardeners
Kelmarna is an organic farm in central Auckland on a mission to transform our food system. And we need your help! We are looking for garden volunteers to assist us with our important work. Whether you have lots of gardening experience, none, or somewhere in the middle, its a great opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, have fun and contribute to our community.
On around 1.7 hectares of land we use permaculture methods to produce food for our local community. We grow vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers and keep chickens, bees, and sheep. We model a regenerative local food system that cares about the earth, climate and people. We love sharing our mahi, providing educational opportunities and offering a beautiful space for people to share, enjoy and feel the therapeutic benefits of being in nature.
As a garden volunteer you have the opportunity to help with all the processes of organic gardening, including seed-raising, sowing, planting, weed management, harvesting, seed-saving, composting, and more. You may also assist with caring for our animals, preparing our shared lunch, or other general farm duties. You will receive lots of support from our team and from peers. We also offer lunch at the end of each session prepared with fresh produce from the gardens and enjoyed together in good company.
So if this sounds like something you are interested in we would love to hear from you. Come and be part of our important mahi and have fun along the way!
An interest in gardening and sustainability is helpful for this role, but no experience is necessary. Our staff will provide an induction to the site and organisation on your first volunteer day, and ongoing training will be available.
Our volunteer days are Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am to 1:30pm. We also have a harvest session on Tuesdays- anytime from 7am-midday. Our volunteer sessions are flexible and once you are registered and inducted with us, you can come along to either of these sessions, whenever you can make it.
Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
