Native Forest Restoration

Free ferry tickets are available for this. Native tree planting in the rainy months and removing invasive weeds over the hot months. Either Matiatia or Onetangi Forest & Bird reserve.

Requirements:

Previous conservation/outdoor experience helps but is not necessary. Moderate level of fitness is required with the ability to work as a team and receive instructions.

We take your safety seriously so there are hazards to be aware of such as uneven ground, sharp tools and unpredictable weather. Please be mindful of others working around you.

We have a Health and Safety form for you to sign on arrival please.

Your shoes will sprayed upon arrival to prevent kauri disease establishing on Waiheke.

Things to bring are gloves (if you have them, otherwise we have spares) good footwear, sunblock, hat, possibly a raincoat, your lunch and plenty of drinking water as it can get hot. Long pants and sleeves are good protective clothing too. We will provide all the tools you will need to use. Access is simple as the reserve is right next to the wharf. It's about a 15-20 minute walk through the reserve to the work site. If working in Onetangi, bus travel is simple and a ride organised for you when you get off

Time commitment:

4-5 hrs with a break in the middle.
