The Unitec ‘Managing to Make a Difference’ series by Aly McNicoll will dramatically improve your skills in leading, managing or relating to organisations in the not-for-profit sector. These Short courses will:

<strong>Developing and Managing Volunteer Performance - 17th May 2012</strong>
This course will improve your abilities to motivate, manage and evaluate the performance of volunteers in ways that work in your not-for-profit organisation. Topics include:
<ul>
<li>What is performance management?</li>
<li>The seven habits of effective performance management</li>
<li>Ensuring expectations are set and met in work teams</li>
<li>Dealing with non-performance</li>
<li>Performance appraisal</li>
<li>The art of feedback – having constructive conversations about performance</li>
<li>Coaching and mentoring in the workplace.</li>
</ul>
<strong>Train the Trainers - Essential Skills for Training Volunteers - 16th August 2012</strong>
This course will provide participants with the essential skills to design and deliver effective training sessions for volunteers in the not for profit sector.

<strong>Conflict Resolution - Friday 14th September 2012</strong>
Dealing with conflict is a common part of life in not for profit organisations. This course explores what conflict looks like, the impact it can have on an organisation and equips participants with the tools to create an environment to minimise the negative impact of conflict. Mediation skills are looked at and practised for those times when conflict occurs. Topics include the nature of conflict, creating a positive environment to minimise and manage conflict, personal conflict management styles, getting to a win-win and mediation skills.

<strong>Governance in Not-for-profit organisations - 13th October 2012 [Saturday] - Venue TBC</strong>
Increase your understanding of ‘good governance’ for not-for-profit organisations and evaluate the effectiveness of your Board.
Topics include:
<ul>
<li>Governance and management defined</li>
<li>How Boards can add value</li>
<li>How to avoid the common pitfalls</li>
<li>Key functions of the Board</li>
<li>Inherent dilemmas for Boards</li>
<li>Board members – roles, rights and responsibilities</li>
<li>Board – staff relations</li>
<li>Effective meetings</li>
</ul>
Venue: Volunteering Auckland, 70 Khyber Pass Rd, Grafton [St David’s Church Complex]
Cost for UNITEC Managing to make a Difference Series: $60 [inl.GST] for Financial Members of Volunteering Auckland, $90 [incl.GST] for Non Financial Members. Your place is secure upon completed registration and receipt of fee. Usually $85 / $120
Parking: Disability parking available but all others at Tournament Parking, Alex Evans Ave or Cnr Symonds St and Mt Eden Rd.
