Let's Talk

19 May 2013 | Volunteer Trends

National Volunteer Week is fast approaching - 16-22 June - with the theme of "He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata" . The most important thing in volunteering is the People. Without those that gift their time, energy and efforts we would have a poorer place, a poorer community, a poorer country. New Zealand is well know for it's generosity of spirit in helping others. Let's celebrate National Volunteer Week by showcasing what Volunteers do for us all!

This last month I have had the privilege of attending two great events - the <a href="http://www.neighborpower.org/" target="_blank">Jim Diers</a>' presentation on <a href="http://aucklandcouncil.powow.co.nz/home/thriving-neighbourhoods-and-communities-in-the-world-s-most-liveable-cities/" target="_blank">people-led neighbourhood development</a> and <a href="http://www.bethkanter.org/" target="_blank">Beth Kanter</a>'s workshop on "Be Networked, Measuring Social Media". Both very different topics from physical contact to virtual contact between people. Both have their place in today's world and both have their place in volunteering. Very inspiring!

And on some very exciting news ... the Manager's of Volunteers Competencies are to be launched on June 12th at 10.30am via webinar. We have been involved in assisting in this National project of developing a framework of learning for Manager's of Volunteers. See here for more details.

Yours in volunteering,

General Manager

Giving to the retired community

I have spare time while my daughter goes to day care, and I wanted to do something for the community.
