Doing Good and Doing it Well?

Grant Thornton Australia and New Zealand have collaborated on the latest NFP Survey. This collaboration enabled a wider view of the challenges our sector faces.

Initially it was thought there may be some country specific differences, but the data revealed that the differences were related more to the industry sectors and organisation size, rather than which side of the Tasman the Not for Profit sat on.

Some key findings from the report reveal:

 • Funding continues to be the major issue for Not for Profits in Australia and New Zealand, highlighting the need for some form of sector collaboration

 • Without prompt changes, many organisations will not survive the next six months

 • Many Not for Profits are putting themselves at risk by establishing or buying social enterprises without carrying out sufficient preparation or due diligence

 • Less than half of the New Zealand Not for Profit organisations surveyed said those in governance positions knew how they were expected to perform
