Changing Face of Volunteering - An Exhibition

10 Oct 2014 | Articles

Volunteering Auckland would like to invite you to view an exhibition of photos and stories that celebrate the diversity of volunteers. It captures the faces and words that express the experience of volunteering.

New Zealand is now recognised as one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world. Without overlooking our bi-cultural heritage we need to acknowledge the 213 ethnicities that are living here in Aotearoa with over 160 in Auckland alone. You could say we have become a melting pot for the 21st century. But diversity is wider than just including ethnic groups. There’s a huge range of skills, interests, ages and abilities in our population to contribute to volunteering in our communities.

Volunteering Auckland is pleased to present this exhibition as a series of photos and stories that respond to the diversity of volunteers that we see coming through Volunteer Centres . It captures the faces and words that express the experience of volunteering. This highlights that there is a greater diversity than ever before of people wanting to volunteer. This includes migrants, refugees, and people with physical and intellectual challenges. In a current environment where employment is not always an option, or employees demand local work experience, volunteering provides an opportunity for a diverse range of people to stay engaged in a meaningful way in the community.

The exhibit highlights that there is a greater diversity than ever before of people wanting to volunteer; this includes migrants, refugees, students, business people and people with physical and intellectual challenges.

We hope that you enjoy the exhibition.
