Chairperson's Report 2011

13 Feb 2012 | Articles

Volunteering Auckland is experiencing challenging and exciting times. The two significant issues have been funding and therefore having enough resources to get all the projects done.

We have had to change the structure of staffing a little as funds were not flush enough to continue with the positions we have had. We have farewelled Angela Radosits [Logistics/Communications Support] and Giselle Fasher [Team Volunteering Programme [TVP] / Marketing] , which has increase the load of work significantly for our GM Cheryll, who has willingly taken on the extra load whilst we looked at our finances and eventually worked out that we were able to hire Kym as the co-ordinator of the TVP programme. This has enabled Cheryll to hand over the TVP to Kym Burke [Team Group VOlunteering Coordinator] and also improved administration. So welcome to Kym Burke as our newest staff member.

We as a board would like to acknowledge the great contribution that Marja van Straaten [Services Coordinator] continues to do in the daily running of the internal programme of VA, and in supervising, training and supporting the volunteer staff who are the back-bone of our service delivery.

Our General Manager, Cheryll Martin, has been very busy with the ongoing development of the website, virtual volunteering and other projects. She has also been busy networking and getting the VA name out there. We as a board would like to thank her most sincerely for her leading the way of running a Volunteer Centre in NZ, and therefore making VA the best in NZ.

The board has had a few changes, we farewelled our long standing board member Kit Howden, who has been a valued member over the last 8 years. He has been our guru with local government and will be missed. We thank him for the energy and passion he brought to the board, and let's not forget the wisdom. Thank you Kit and good luck in all your community roles.

We have also farewelled Paul Hutchinson from the board, who has decided to stand down so that he can spend more time with his family, as he leads a very busy life. Paul was our treasurer, and kept a close eye on what was happening financially, thank you for your support and comittment over the last ?? years.

May I take this opportunity to say thank you to Cheryll, Marja, Kym and all the volunteer staff that keep the cogs running within the walls of VA. Your commitment and time is truly appreciated, we know that VA is what it is today because of it's great people.Thank you for your work.

It would be very remiss of me not to acknowledge and sincerely thank each of our board members, who are dedicated and commited to supporting and volunteering their valuable time to partner with Cheryll and her staff in lifting the reputation throughout the Auckland community.

Thank you and God bless you all
