Board Talk

19 May 2013 | Articles

Hi everyone. As a newly appointed Trustee, I am delighted to contribute to this month’s newsletter. I recently spent a day shadowing the GM and VA staff which was eye-opening and very worthwhile.

There is no doubt that volunteering is all about people; contributing to the local community is such a traditional virtue that is sometimes overlooked in today’s busy society.

We are therefore looking forward to National Volunteer Week commencing in mid-June as a timely reminder to showcase the people who are such an integral part of our organisation. People encapsulates everyone involved at Volunteering Auckland – from our stakeholders, to members, the charities, funding bodies, council, local bodies and government – and the volunteers themselves. NVW is all about showcasing the invaluable contributions of volunteers, because, after all, volunteering is at the heart of New Zealand. So what better theme for 2013’s event than a uniquely kiwiana one:

“He tāngata, He tāngata, He tāngata!” translated as “It is people, It is people, It is people”.
