Bike mechanics - all experience levels welcome [Grey Lynn]
Who we are:
Bike Hub Grey Lynn is a community space that supports more people to cycle more often. We’re located next to the pump track in Grey Lynn Park.
We offer free use of bike repair tools, 2-week e-bike loans, and second-hand bikes for sale at affordable prices.
Our experienced bike mechanics work alongside our visitors to develop their skills and knowledge, so they can freely enjoy the benefits of cycling.
The activity:
As part of our mission to reduce waste to landfill and support more people to cycle more often, we rescue old bikes from landfill and accept donations of old bikes. Some of these bikes need a lot of work before they are ready to be ridden again. And that’s where you come in!
Depending on your skill level, you could be cleaning bikes, removing parts from them, replacing cables and brake pads, tuning up gears, or fixing flat tyres. All experience levels are welcome. Our capable bike mechanics will be onsite to guide you as needed. Tools are provided - just bring yourself, covered shoes, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
By helping us restore second-hand bikes, you are supporting more of the local community to get cycling and reducing waste to landfill, while also connecting with other locals and learning new skills. How’s that for an afternoon well spent?!
All experience levels are welcome. Our experienced bike mechanics will be onsite to guide you. Tools will be provided.
Please wear closed shoes and clothing which you don’t mind getting a little greasy.
Between 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Thursday 26 November. You do not need to contact the person stated, we would like drop in volunteers during this time.
You are also welcome to visit and volunteer at our Bike Hubs during our regular public opening times.
