Volunteer & Event Co-Coordinator (Auckland CBD Repair Café)

Central City Repair Café (CBDRC) is seeking an enthusiastic, community-minded Co-Coordinator to help lead our vibrant repair events in urban Auckland. If you want to keep treasured household items out of landfills while fostering a warm, connected community, this shared leadership role is for you!

Working alongside our current Event Coordinator and supported by a wider team of leaders under the Doughnut Economics Advocates NZ (DEANZ) charity, you’ll share responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of our sessions and support our skilled volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:
• Shared Event Leadership & Operations: Co-manage venue setup, run-of-show, visitor flow, and pack-down alongside your co-coordinator during repair sessions.
• Volunteer Coordination & Roster Support: Work together to check volunteer availability 1–2 weeks prior to each session and confirm coverage across key repair stations (sewing, electrical, bikes, general, and reception).
• Community & Visitor Hospitality: Create a warm, inclusive environment, welcome visitors, brief reception volunteers, and help manage visitor queues smoothly.
• Health, Safety & Venue Standards: Assist in ensuring basic health and safety practices are followed during sessions, including overseeing electrical safety check protocols.
• Post-Event Reporting & Admin: Collaborate on tallying monthly repair metrics (items fixed, unresolved, visitor numbers) and sharing brief summary updates with the team on Slack.
• Financial Care & Logistics: Share responsibility for Koha (donations) collection/banking, simple receipt reimbursements, and ensuring event supplies and volunteer refreshments are stocked.
• Storytelling & Advocacy (Optional): Help capture success stories and photos during events to share with our media team and act as an approachable advocate for DEANZ and the repair movement.

What You’ll Gain:
• Shared Leadership Support: Work closely with a co-lead so you always have backup, shared responsibility, and peer support.
• Full Onboarding Support: A smooth handover and ongoing backing from our team and the wider DEANZ leadership group.
• Leadership & Event Experience: Proven community management and event coordination experience within a recognised sustainability charity.
• Impact & Network: Strong connections with a passionate local network of fixers, environmentalists, and community advocates in central Auckland.
• Professional Tech Skills: Practical experience using popular industry tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Facebook/Meta Suite, WhatsApp)—a fantastic boost for your CV and career.

Requirements:

• A passion for sustainability, zero-waste, and circular economy principles.
• Collaborative spirit—someone who thrives working in a partnership and sharing team responsibilities.
• Strong organisational skills and reliability.
• Great interpersonal skills—someone who loves connecting with people and making them feel valued.
• Comfort with (or willingness to learn) basic digital communication tools.

Time commitment:

Approx. 4–6 hours per month (shared workload).
