Art Studio [Disability Arts Class] support - Orewa

Māpura Studios are a not-for-profit disability arts organisation where our artists develop their practice with the support of experienced tutors. The environment is fun and caring and fosters the well-being and personal growth of everyone involved.

As a volunteer, your role will involve helping to set up materials before each class and assisting with packing up afterward. You’ll work closely with the tutors, supporting them during sessions as part of the team. You'll participate in class activities, including sharing, discussions, possibly even art-making, within the structure provided by the tutors. We ask that you arrive on time, stay for your agreed shift, and keep us informed if you’re unable to make it - life happens, and we understand, but communication is key. This role would suit someone passionate about people, who is able to both follow the lead of the tutor as well as pick up on what is required unprompted. You do not need experience with art just a strong ability to be sensitive to the needs of others. You can expect a warm and inclusive environment, clear communication and guidance, opportunities to learn and grow, and regular check-ins with space for feedback.

Requirements:

It is important that you are able to fit into the Māpura Studios culture. This requires emotional intelligence and sensitivity and an alignment with our values:

Inclusion - everyone is welcome and treated with respect.
Expression - Every voice and story matters.
Connection - Relationships are at the heart of our work.
Respect - We honour the dignity and diversity of every person.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Studio volunteering in our Orewa class requires 3 hours once a week, during school term times. We break for school holidays so you will also have a break in between term times.

The time commitment for the Orewa class is 9.30 am to 12.30 pm every Wednesday.
