Instagram Community Lead
To showcase the work of the New Zealand Young Physicists’ Trust and build an engaging community of young scientists, teachers, and sponsors across Aotearoa on Instagram through creative digital storytelling.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a new role that may expand with time to do more for the 40th IYPT. It is not likely to turn into paid work in the current funding environment. After six months we would be happy to supply truthful references to a potential employer.
CONTENT STRATEGY: Develop monthly content pillars based on our activities (e.g., "latest sponsors/partners news”, "Tournament Highlights"and “Team NZ activities”).
CONTENT CREATION: Design and post an average one (or more) high-quality posts or reels per week using provided media.
MEDIA CREATION: Suggest subjects/occasions where new media should be developed. Help capture photos and videos and build a media library as you go.
Engagement: Monitor the Trust’s Instagram account. After training take over the day-to-day responses to DMs, and engagement with relevant STEM sponsor and partner accounts.
BRAND ALIGNMENT: Ensure content reflects the Trust’s values of evidence led curiosity, teamwork and competition.
Our Instagram Community Lead reports to the executive Trustee who is working as our general manager. They will interact with
- All the Trustees
- Students (not in a supervisory capacity)
- Parents of students, especially those of Team New Zealand members
- Sponsors and partners
-Alumni and other extended community members
ESSENTIAL: this is not a role for a novice.
- Mastery of Instagram features (Reels, Stories, Highlights).
- Experience with design tools like Canva (free versions)
- Ability to translate complex science into engaging content for high schoolers.
- Understanding of privacy principles and online child safety best practices
- Flexibility and ability to be comfortable in an evolving environment
- Examples of previous work and references.
PREFERRED:
- Undergraduate physics or engineering studies
- Knowledge of the New Zealand high school competition and extra-curricular environment as it supports University entrance globally.
- Previous experience using social media to support fundraising from corporate sponsors
Approx three hours a week, increasing during Tournaments
