Walking Support (South Slavic Language Speaker)

Do you speak a South Slavic language (Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian or Macedonian) and enjoy walking and connecting with others? We’re looking for a kind, reliable volunteer to support one of our members on regular local walks. These outings are a chance to build confidence, encourage independence and provide meaningful social connection. Ideally, you’ll be based in or near Rothesay Bay.
About Blind Low Vision NZ: Every day, an average of nine New Zealanders reach out to us for support with vision loss. We provide practical and emotional help so people who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision can live independently. We meet people in their homes or at local offices, advocate for accessible communities, and work to remove barriers so everyone can participate fully in life. At Blind Low Vision NZ, no goal is too big or too small.

Requirements:

Fluent in a South Slavic language (Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian or Macedonian), local and walking fit. Preferred qualities: Empathy, reliability and punctuality and a desire to learn more about vision loss.

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Flexible but once a week or fortnight. For the sake of continuity, we would appreciate a commitment of a minimum of 6 months.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
