Relay for Life | Area Lead
We’re looking for Area Leads Volunteers to take on a leadership role at Relay For Life and help support volunteers and key areas of the event.
Area Leads play a key role in helping Relay For Life run smoothly, safely, and positively for everyone involved. Working closely with Cancer Society staff, Area Leads provide guidance and support to volunteers within a specific event area.
Area Lead responsibilities may include:
- Acting as the main point of contact for a designated event area
- Guiding, supporting, and checking in with volunteers during their shifts
- Allocating tasks and helping ensure activities run on time
- Identifying and escalating any issues or safety concerns to Cancer Society staff
- Supporting a welcoming, calm, and inclusive environment for participants and volunteers
Area Leads will receive a briefing before the event and on‑the‑day support. This role suits volunteers who are confident, approachable, and enjoy helping others have a positive event experience.
- Ability to arrange your own transport to and from the event venue
- A reasonable to good level of physical fitness, as the role involves standing, walking, and moving around the venue
- Confidence communicating with volunteers, participants, and event staff
- Comfortable taking initiative and following agreed processes and instructions
- Reliable and able to commit to your agreed shift(s)
- Flexible and willing to support other event areas if needed, especially during busy periods
Previous volunteering or event experience is preferable.
4 - 5 per shift, depending on the role and area.
