Habitat for Humanity Northern Region's Curtain Bank is on the hunt for a skilled and reliable volunteer to help sew reusable shopping bags made from recycled or donated fabric, which are then sold in our Op-Shops and helps support our Healthy homes team with providing warm, dry, healthier homes to families in need in our community.
What you will be doing:.........
♻️Sewing simple reusable shopping bags from donated or recycled textiles
♻️ Cutting fabric, and finishing bags
♻️ Working alongside a friendly supportive team
♻️ Helping to reduce plastic waste and make your community a more sustainable place to live
✔️ Confident using a sewing machine
✔️ Able to sew neatly and follow simple patterns/templates
✔️ Good attention to detail and takes pride in workmanship
✔️ Reliable and able to work independently
✔️ Comfortable working onsite at East Tāmaki with our team in the Curtain Bank
(may consider home based work over time)
✔️ No formal qualifications needed — just good sewing skills and good attitude
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
One or two half days per week 9am to 12 noon or 1pm to 4pm
or 1 full day from 9am to 3pm on a regular weekly basis.
Flexibility on days/times but would like a regular weekly commitment
