Patient and Family Companion Volunteer

This is a deeply meaningful role for people who are calm, empathetic, and able to offer a friendly, supportive presence.
As a Companion Volunteer, once trained you would join our team of Patient & Family Volunteers, to be called upon to:
• Spend time with patients to provide company, conversation, and companionship
• Sit with patients to give their family/whānau members a break
• Provide reassurance and a listening ear
• Help create a peaceful, comforting environment

Requirements:

We are looking for people who:
• Are emotionally mature, grounded, and compassionate
• Are good listeners and comfortable with silence as well as conversation
• Can maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Are reliable and able to commit to regular volunteering
• Are respectful of diverse cultures, beliefs, and life experiences
Life experience is valued in this role, and many of our companions bring a depth of understanding, patience, and empathy gained through their own personal journeys.

A Police background check is required for this role.
