Japanese Playgroup Facilitator - Orakei
The Japanese Playgroup provides a safe place for young children to interact and parents to meet and speak Japanese on a regular basis. It helps reduce loneliness and isolation in the community, offers peer support, and helps families learn what services are available in their community.
The facilitator is responsible for running the parents' group each Wednesday (weekly) for 2-3 hours from 10am-1pm at the Orakei Plunket Clinic.
Tasks include:
-Provide a welcoming environment for parents and caregivers, including meeting and greeting children and parents/caregivers, offering support when needed, and helping to form connections in the community;
-Set up the group environment with a range of toys and resources with the help of the group members;
-Set up tea/coffee, and refreshments;
-Complete the Health and Safety group precheck list before the group commences (HS049) (including the location of the first aid kit and evacuation plan) and any health and safety incident reporting;
-Keep accurate attendance records;
-Manage donations and deposit them into Plunket's bank accounts;
-Communicate with the Community Services Coordinator regularly;
-Help plan activities/celebrations with input from the group members and the Community Services Coordinator;
-Share information with the group, such as monthly injury prevention, available Plunket services, and local/Plunket events; and
-Pack up and tidy the playgroup environment with the help of the group members.

We are looking for a Japanese-speaking individual who is warm and welcoming and able to connect with parents/caregivers and offer support. The ideal person will be/have:
-Friendly, outgoing, and have good communication skills;
-Proactive and self-motivated;
-Reliable with good time management skills;
-Culturally aware and have a commitment to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
-Good interpersonal skills; and
-Enjoys working as part of a team.
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
