Garden to Table programme Support
Garden to Table is a nationwide programme run in many schools in NZ. It encourages and inspires children to grow, harvest, prepare and share school-grown foods and recipes. It is a hands on practical programme and we are looking for helpers to ensure our sessions run safely and successfully. In a typical class session, the students harvest vegetables and herbs, learn how to sow seeds, raise and care for healthy plants. in the kitchen, they learn all about how to prepare and cook a recipe that everyone including the volunteers share at the end of the session. a much looked forward to and enjoyed part of the programme.
A certain level of fitness is helpful for garden tasks. No special experience required. Your role is more to advise and support students in their tasks in the garden and kitchen. Programme leaders will guide you on your role and will be present throughout the sessions.
From two hours and up to six hours per week in the mornings during school term time.
