Future Convenor / Chairperson
UWEN (Upper Waitematā Ecology Network) is an organisation currently made up of 9 community led groups, with a strong operational focus, to deliver positive environmental and social change at a landscape level. The groups within UWEN have received numerous awards for their work within the ecology space, testimony to the innovative approaches and dedication of the groups and the network. The organisation is maturing rapidly, and is developing a strong governance and strategic thinking focus to ensure that the organisation remains agile, responsive and can adapt to the opportunities that are made available.
UWEN is looking for a collaborative, future-thinking Chairperson/ Convenor to support the kaupapa of this network of locally led conservation groups in Upper Harbour, Tāmaki Makaurau. We are seeking a strategic thinking, astute leader who is able to support and uplift those around them, connect with stakeholders and who is passionate about regenerating natural systems and working collaboratively to restore the mauri ora of our rohe. Previous board and ideally chair experience is a pre-requisite. You will be part of a collaborative, engaged and passionate group of people taking bold, future focused action for generations to come.
Particular skills we are seeking are:
- Experience in governance, ideally in a Chair or leadership position including experience of meeting compliance requirements.
- Ability to foster strong relationships with stakeholders including iwi, funders, local businesses, partner organisations and key individuals.
- Strong financial acumen with some experience in funding/commercial areas preferred, ability to identify future risks, seek future opportunities and ensure organisational sustainability
- Guide and lead others as the organisation grows and expands its scope, reach and impact in the local community
- Committed to strengthening partnerships with mana whenua

The role is currently voluntary with the aim to explore funding opportunities for an honorarium.
