IHC Friendship Volunteering - South East
Flexibility and choice are key to this role, fitting your friendship into your busy life and deciding together the things that you will do. The relationship is one to one. This means that you spend time with only one person, so you both get to know each other in order to develop a genuine friendship. By taking a moment to connect with someone with an intellectual disability you can make a massive difference in their life. Not only will you have a great time with your friend but you will help to improve their quality of life and help them to achieve goals and become more involved in their own community. We provide training and ongoing support. We welcome applications from the Weymouth/Onehunga/One Tree Hill area.
We are looking for volunteers for two men who live in One Tree Hill, they are interested in visiting Cafes, going to the movies, watching sport and going for drives, if you are a Top Gear fan that would also be useful. We also have another man who lives in Weymouth, he is also keen on watching sports, going to the movies, doing some art and craft and having a good chat.
IHC is on the look-out for people like you. We welcome applicants aged 17 and over, from all walks of life, who have a clean police record, a warm heart and big desire to support others. We offer a full induction and orientation programme for new volunteers. We also provide ongoing training with specific emphasis on understanding intellectual disability, communication and first aid. Applicants are required to be police vetted.
You and your friend will spend as much time together as you can, we recommend two hours per fortnight.
