Workshop volunteer: The role of the workshop volunteers is to coach the participants during workshops on camera and composition, and point out interesting things to photograph.
Photography mentor: The role of the mentor is to build a mentor-mentee relationship with youth ages 8-18 who are part of IMAgEN8’s nature photography programs. Our philosophy is to provide each student with the mentorship they need to nurture their love for nature, keep them excited about photography and give them ideas to move their skills forward. We value mentorship, and do not organise any competitions. Youth learn through workshops, assignments, feedback from mentors, webinars and each other. Each individual is encouraged to explore their own tastes and interests at their own pace.
Expectations
We are looking to people to join our volunteer team who believe in our vision of nurturing a love for nature; have patience, energy, humility and enthusiasm for teaching children; and have good communication skills.
Workshops: Volunteer at nature photography workshops held in the Auckland area; Help with camera, composition etc. Requirement - 5+ years of Digital SLR (or similar) nature photography experience.
Mentor: Provide feedback to their mentees when they share images through assignments and projects, Participate in webinars with the borrow-a-camera and IMAgEN8 nature photographers, Help with Adobe Lightroom questions, Communicate well (primarily via email) with IMAgEN8 and their mentees/parents. Requirement - Digital photo processing experience (Adobe Lightroom or similar)
A police clearance and appropriate background checks will be required before you can start working with students. Our educators adhere to our safety and youth protection policies.
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
3-10 hrs/month
