Piano Harmony Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to give some of their time to help others. If you know how to play a musical instrument or like to sing: it will be a perfect fit! We have a piano onsite for you to use. We would love to hear from you. Come and join our friendly team at CHT: Royal Oak Rest Home.

Requirements:
  1. Background check. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.

  2. Application Process: This may involve filling out an application form, providing references, and attending an orientation or training session.

  3. Skill Level: Volunteers with a certain level of musical skill or proficiency. For example, if you're performing live music, having a decent level of proficiency with your chosen instrument or vocal skills could be important.

  4. Instrument and Equipment: If you're bringing your own musical instrument or equipment, ensure that it's in good working condition. We have a piano available on-site.

  5. Flexible Repertoire: Being flexible with your musical repertoire is important. Residents may have diverse tastes and preferences, so having a varied selection of songs that appeal to different generations can enhance the experience.

  6. Sensitivity and Patience: Working with elderly or vulnerable populations requires a high level of sensitivity and patience. Volunteers should be understanding of the residents' needs and be prepared to adapt to different situations.

  7. Communication Skills: Clear communication is crucial. Volunteers should be able to communicate effectively with care home staff, residents, and their families. This includes discussing the type of music preferred, any special requests or considerations, and scheduling details.

  8. Commitment: We appreciate volunteers who can commit to regular or scheduled performances. Consistency can help build rapport with the residents and contribute to a positive and familiar environment.

  9. Respect for Privacy and Dignity: Volunteers should respect the privacy and dignity of the residents. It's important to be aware of cultural sensitivities and individual preferences.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Most volunteers spend one or a few hours per week at the care home, but we are flexible and do our best to work with your schedule. You may prefer to volunteer weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or on a flexible basis. We are grateful for any time that you have to offer. We welcome weekday volunteers. An activity coordinator works on site seven days a week, and we work alongside you as you get to know the residents and the care home environment.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
