Roots of Empathy Instructor

ROE’s mission is to build caring, peaceful, and civil societies through the development of empathy in children and adults. The focus of ROE in the long term is to build capacity of the next generation for responsible citizenship and responsive parenting. In the short term, ROE focuses on raising levels of empathy, resulting in more respectful and caring relationships and reduced levels of bullying and aggression.
At the heart of the programme is a parent and baby who visit the class once a month through the school year. The ROE Instructor visits the week before and the week after each Family visit (Pre & Post Visits) to prepare and reinforce teachings using a specialized curriculum with lesson plans for each visit of the nine themes.
Roots of Empathy was developed by Mary Gordon in Canada in 1996 and was introduced into Aotearoa in 2007. Being based around the wisdom of the pepi, the programme sits comfortably within Tikanga Maori. We have been privileged to work closely with Iwi on adaptations to make the programme align even more closely with te Ao Maori.
