Resource Centre Store Person

WARC was set up in 1977 by a group of like-minded people concerned at the large amounts of valuable materials being dumped in landfills, when they could be reused and repurposed. We are a community led charity run by amazing volunteers. Our centre is based in the suburb of New Lynn in Auckland, and is open for the public to collect and repurpose.

This role includes:

  • Opening and closing the centre
  • Interacting with Visitors, and making them feel welcome
  • Informing new visitors about how the centre operates
  • Helping visitors locate resources
  • Restocking, tidying and organising displays
  • Cash handling
  • Processing donations into the centre

All volunteers will be inducted into the new role by our Volunteer Coordinator. The volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for training and ongoing support. By the end of the induction, volunteers will know our health and safety policies and have a basic understanding of how the centre runs. They will then be rostered on alongside experienced volunteers to learn from.

Requirements:

For this role you will need to have:

  • Strong communication skills, as you will spend most of your time greeting and talking to visitors
  • Creative thinker in regards to how resources can be reused and displayed
  • Deep satisfaction in organising and ordering resources
  • An interest in waste management and protecting our whenua

Time commitment:

We are Open Sat 10-1pm and Weds 12-2pm, and closed over school holidays.
Volunteers can choose which day they work when we are open, how many times they would like to work in a term, and if they would like to do a full shift or half a shift. A roster is created based around the volunteers availability at the beginning of each term.
