Red Cross Meals on Wheels – Waiheke Island, Auckland
In Auckland alone, our volunteer drivers deliver around 128,000 meals per year. Using their own vehicle, drivers collect hot lunches from a local depot, then deliver the meals to recipients following the accompanying distribution list.
This role is for volunteers located on Waiheke Island.
We're looking for friendly volunteer drivers to join our Waiheke Island team.
Shifts start and end at the meal pick up point on Marama Avenue in Surfdale.
Meal pick-up time is 11:15am Monday to Friday.
Your tasks are to pick up chilly bins containing meals in your car, deliver meals to people and have a brief chat at the door, return chilly bins to the depot and go home feeling good that you’ve helped someone out today.
Petrol vouchers are available after a designated number of routes have been completed (or can be donated back to support the programme).
Contact your Meals on Wheels coordinators for more information.
We are urgently looking for friendly and considerate volunteers who are sensitive to the different needs and vulnerabilities of the recipients.
Min age 18 years. Training 4 to 8 hours.
Valid driver's licence.
Vehicle with valid registration (rego) and warrant of fitness (WoF).
Two character references. You’ll need to be a friendly person who has their own car and a full driver licence.
We’ll train you in how to carry out the role and you’ll be supported by Red Cross volunteers or staff members.
A reasonable level of fitness is preferable as volunteers will be carrying hot meals from vehicles to different types of residences that may include steps or stairs.
Volunteers must have access to their own vehicle.
Meals are collected and delivered around lunchtime on weekdays (not weekends or public holidays). A shift will usually take between 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
Meal pick-up time is 11:00am Mon-Fri.
Drivers commit to delivering approximately one day a fortnight or a month.
We are looking for an ongoing commitment to this role.
