Family Room Duty Support
The RMHC Family Room in Starship Hospital is the welcoming, open front door and safe refuge for our families who need to be very close to their child in hospital. Often being the first point of contact for everyone arriving, the role of the Family Room Volunteer is a crucial one. A friendly face and a smile works wonders for whanau who often arrive tired and stressed after time on the ward. Our family coordinators and duty manager are sometimes busy with families or called away to deal with situations so it is essential we have someone present to provide a warm and welcoming environment, and to assist them to support our families. The Family Room welcomes our most vulnerable families who are facing tough challenges, knowing someone is there to help them through makes a huge difference.
Some of the duties in the Family Room would include assistance in the family laundry and helping to manage the laundry bookings, ensuring families are maintaining physical distancing, running food to families on the ward and engage with and assist families with general enquiries. Greeting families and showing them the day lounge, showing where tea and coffee is and sometimes making these, assisting with putting out food, ushering families in and out, tidying up and wiping benches.
We require volunteers with a positive attitude and great communication skills. You will also have a friendly face and a ready smile and comfortable syaing hello and having a chat to families, have a caring and supportive nature as well. If you’re someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand then this is the perfect role for you.
